The application and selection process for the position of Sheriff 911 Communications Officer I consists of the following:

• Computerized multi-tasking CritiCall Examination
• Oral Interview
• Sheriff 911 Communication Officer I Orientation
• Background Investigation: Pre-Investigative Questionnaire, consisting of approximately 300
questions to include a credit check
• Interview with a Background Investigator

• Psychological examination
• Medical examination
How To Apply: To apply for this position, candidates must start by submitting a resume and taking our online 10-minute timed typing test. After completing both of these steps, candidates will be notified by email within 1-2 weeks of their typing test results, and will be scheduled to take the CritiCall Examination upon successful completion of the typing test.

Please Note: Candidates who fail the typing test the first time may retest in 30 days by contacting Human Resources. Candidates who are unsuccessful on their second attempt must then wait 5 months to be eligible to reapply and take the typing test again. We do not accept typing certifications from other agencies.
CritiCall Examination: The CritiCall examination is an automated exam designed to measure your multi-tasking ability. Candidates will put on a headset and the test will simulate a call center atmosphere. There are components of map reading, memory recall, and data entry in the examination. These are critical skills necessary for success in today's complex dispatching environment. Candidates who are successfully pass the CritiCall examination will be scheduled for an oral panel interview the following month. Candidates who are unsuccessful can retake the CritiCall examination in 30 days by contacting Human Resources.

Background Investigation: Candidates will be assigned a background investigator once their completed packet has been received. The assigned investigator will contact the candidate via telephone or USPS mail service, informing them of their status in the selection process.
Candidates will be disqualified in the background investigation for reasons that include, but are not limited to: (1) DUI violations within the last 3 years (2) Currently on probation (3) Adult felony convictions (4) Conviction of misdemeanor domestic violence, 243(e)(1)PC. Candidates who fail the background investigation are not eligible to re-apply for a minimum of one year.
Successful candidates will then begin the background investigation process, including scheduling all necessary assessments with their assigned investigator.
Preparing For Your Background Investigation: Candidates can prepare for the background process ahead of time by collecting required documents. The items listed below must be brought in at the time of your appointment with your background investigator. Items that must be sent away for can be submitted after your appointment, but should be sought for in advance. Educational transcripts must be sent in a sealed envelope. All items must be original or certified. Candidates should refer to the instructions page and checklist in their packet once it has been received for further instruction regarding the documents listed below.
