Not everyone who works for the Sheriff wears a badge. The skills and experience of wide variety of support personnel in non-sworn positions throughout Riverside County contribute to the success of the department.
As classified employees within the department, support staff are required to pass a pre-employment physical exam, a drug/alcohol test, and a criminal background investigation including fingerprinting.
Job assignments may be within Sheriff's administrative offices in downtown Riverside or at various Sheriff's stations or facilities throughout the county.
There are five jails, or correctional facilities, in Riverside County, all managed by the Sheriff's Department Corrections Division, one of the largest jail operations in the state and throughout the country.
The Coroner investigates and reports on all violent, sudden or unusual deaths of persons within the County as established by California law.
Other classified support positions can include professional, information technology, and equipment & facilities maintenance.
